About Us
Mike Fiolitakis was born and raised in Heraklion, the largest city on the island of Crete near the ruins of the ancient palace of Knossos, (home to king Minos the supreme ruler of the Minoan people) and his family origins are from Tylisos, another Minoan settlement 12 kms west of Heraklion, immigrating to NZ as a young adult in the early 1970’s.
Having been brought up on the “Cretan diet”, he found it very difficult to adjust to the Kiwi ways of eating during the early years, always yearning for good quality Greek food which was relatively unknown in NZ then, and still is to a large extent.
Though this has changed somewhat in recent years with the growing awareness of Mediterranean cuisine, there is still a distinct lack of good quality Greek products on the NZ market. Having successfully introduced some of his friends to the taste of Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil and after intensive research and trips to Greece to examine production installations and establish contacts with reputable suppliers in key producing regions, it was inevitable for him and his NZ wife Jan to set up this company and try to share this best kept secret (in NZ) with the general NZ consumer.
